Check out this vintage Conn 6M Alto Saxophone, serial number 320142. Manufactured in 1947, this instrument represents the tail end of Conn's "Golden Era," featuring the coveted Rolled Tone Holes and the legendary "Naked Lady" (Artist) engraving.

⚠️ CONDITION NOTE: SOLD AS-IS (OVERHAUL REQUIRED) This instrument is being sold as a Restoration Candidate. It is complete and mechanically sound (all parts present), but the pads are cooked and will need a full repad/overhaul before the horn is playable. Ideally suited for a repair technician, hobbyist, or player looking to commission a custom overhaul on a classic chassis.

This is for the player who knows that a Conn 6M blows modern horns out of the water in terms of speed and volume. It is the chosen alto of Charlie Parker (who played a 6M for much of his career). By picking up this "project" horn, you can have it overhauled to your exact specifications (pad choice, resonators, etc.) and still end up paying less than the cost of a new Yamaha.

The "Golden Era" 6M Specs

  • Rolled Tone Holes: Features the signature drawn and Rolled Tone Holes. Unlike modern straight holes, these provide a broader surface area for the pad seal, saving pad life and contributing to the massive, resonant sound that 6Ms are famous for.
  • Underslung Octave Key: Features the iconic "underslung" octave mechanism, which is faster and less prone to bending than standard over-the-top keys.
  • Microtuner Neck: Equipped with the original Double-Socket Neck with Microtuner. Note: These necks are rare and valuable on their own.
  • Original Lacquer: The finish appears to be Original Lacquer with a deep, dark patina.

Condition Report

  • Cosmetic: "Vintage Patina." The horn shows honest wear from decades of use. There is acid bleed on both pinky tables and flea bites scattered throughout the body. The lacquer has darkened into a beautiful, albeit uneven, vintage patina.
  • Mechanical: The mechanism is complete and moves, though the oil is likely gummed up and slow. The body and neck geometry look good, with no major smash-ups visible.
  • Pads: Need immediate replacement.
