Ed Fleming

Owner

Ed Fleming is currently owner of Fleming Musical Instruments & Repair in Houston Texas. In 1977, he received his Bachelor of Music degree from Eastern Illinois University. As a saxophone major, he split his playing time between the classical and jazz styles.

After teaching music and band at the high school level, Ed then discovered that repairing instruments was his professional calling. He graduated from Allied School of Instrument Repair in Wisconsin and has been repairing woodwinds and brass for top professionals, students and schools here in Texas since 1980.

Ed still plays sax in various groups in the Houston area. Along the way, Ed has become an avid bicyclist, where he rides and races Ultra Marathon distances. He also has three musically talented adult children, Lindsey, Jessica and Connor.

Steven Rodriguez

General Manager / Co-Owner

Steven Rodriguez is currently manager of Fleming Musical Instruments & Repair. Since birth, Steven was immersed in the musical world. Growing up playing the piano and singing, it was evident Steven would spend his life in the music industry.

In 2008, Steven graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and immediately began his apprenticeship at Fleming Musical Instruments & Repair under Ed Fleming.

Steven excelled in his apprenticeship and later accepted the position of shop manager in 2012. Since then, he has bolstered a strong customer base by providing a friendly, no-pressure environment for his customers. Stevens manages a full team of expert technicians with nearly 100 years of combined experience, and handles the day-to-day workings of Fleming Instruments & Repair.

Steven spends his free time playing tuba in the Houston Civic Symphony, riding his bike in group rides, golfing, and raising his son, Leo.

Chris Campbell

Head Technician

Chris Campbell is the current Head Technician at Fleming Instruments and Repair. Chris started working at Fleming Instruments part-time during the summer of 2011. After showing a natural gift and tenacity for the work, he began his apprenticeship under Ed and Steven. He helps manages a full workload of professional woodwind and brass repairs from our partner schools and is in high demand with professional instrumentalists from all over Houston.

Chris is a huge animal lover and spends his time outside of work volunteering at local shelters, sculpting, reading comics, and taking care of his pets.

Wes Hughes

Director of Sales, Marketing, and Customer Relations

Wes is the first addition to our sales team, handling everything from customer relations to social media marketing. His love of music began in grade school in Forney, Texas, and led him to earn a Bachelor's in Music Education from the University of North Texas, where he played clarinet and saxophone. During his time at UNT, he studied with renowned musicians like Dr. John Scott and Mr. Daryl Coad, and performed with esteemed ensembles like the UNT Lab Bands and Wind Symphony. He maintains professional memberships in TMEA, the International Clarinet Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

After graduating, Wes built a successful career as a band director in Forney where he taught for 5 years. Following a recent move to Tomball, he joined Fleming's to help manage the demands of our growing business. You'll find Wes interacting with customers online and in-person, processing orders and shipments, managing our social media, and keeping our inventory and consignment instruments organized.

When he's not at the shop, Wes enjoys riding his motorcycle, teaching music lessons, camping, and spending time with his wife Jessica and their two children, Owen and Addie.

Elvis Moreno

Director of Sales & Customer Relations

Born and raised in Houston, Elvis discovered his musical
passion at Stovall Middle School. Inspired by his band director, Mr. Heaton, who effortlessly played his 7th-grade region music, Elvis committed to mastering the trombone.

He pursued higher education at the University of North Texas, earning a Bachelor's in Music Education and a Master's in Bass Trombone Performance. During his time at UNT, he was an active participant in various Lab Bands, starting with the Nine O’Clock Lab Band and concluding his studies with the prestigious One O’Clock Lab Band.

Elvis developed a keen interest in instrument repair during his undergraduate years, where he learned from skilled technicians Ann MacMillan and Justin Cooper. In his first two years, he dedicated much of his free time to mastering the craft under their guidance. By his junior year, he secured a part-time position as a brass technician, apprenticing with Ann and Justin for four years. After completing his master's degree, Elvis joined Butler Carbon Fiber Trombones in Dallas, where he worked alongside Dave Butler, focusing on soldering and play-testing trombones.

Elvis's musical contributions can be heard on Lab 2020 and various clips on YouTube,
showcasing his performances with the One O’Clock Lab Band, Cancer Blows Big
Band, Two O’Clock Lab Band, trombone choir, and more. In his leisure time, Elvis enjoys running, fishing, spending time with family, and playing Dungeons and Dragons with the Fleming Crew.

Michael Keig

Education Representative

Michael Keig is the newest member of our team, and currently serves as Educational Representative of Fleming Musical Instruments & Repair. Mike is in direct weekly contact with our partnered schools, and supports our communities by assisting Directors in person and on campus. Michael has spent the last 33 years as a band director in the Klein Independent School District, teaching at Klein Forest H.S., Wunderlich Intermediate, Klein Collins H.S. and finishing his career at Schindewolf Intermediate.

Michael is also active as a clinician and freelance trombonist in the Houston area. He has spent 10 years in the Houston Texas Bullpen Pep Band.

Michael received his Bachelors of Education degree and a Master of Arts degree from West Texas A&M University. He also was a member of the Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corps from Hutchinson, KS.

Michael spends his free time barbecuing and cooking at home with his family.
