Pre-Owned Yamaha YAS-62 Mark I Professional Alto Saxophone - Gold Lacquer
We have one of the most celebrated modern classics in saxophone history on the bench today. The Yamaha YAS-62 is the quintessential professional workhorse, beloved across jazz clubs, concert halls, and university studios for its razor-sharp intonation, quick ergonomics, and vibrant, focused core.
This specific instrument, carrying serial number 087513, is an original Mark I generation model. Easily recognized by purists, it features the vintage-spec continuous one-piece bell key guard (often called the "J-plate" or "wing" guard) spanning low C, B, and Bb, rather than the separate two-piece guards seen on later iterations. Built with its original matching 62-style neck and finished in classic gold lacquer, this horn embodies the exact acoustic balance and resonant projection that cemented the 62 series as an industry benchmark.
Key Features & Specifications
-
Original Mark I Architecture: Outfitted with the classic one-piece continuous wing guard across the low bell keys, representing the earliest and most sought-after acoustic layout of the 62 lineage.
-
Original Matching 62 Neck: The taper that defined modern commercial and classical saxophone playing, delivering immediate response, balanced resistance, and spot-on intonation.
-
Integrated Key Posts on Ribs: Ribbed body construction adds structural rigidity and tonal warmth, giving the horn a rich, centered harmonic core.
-
Professional Ergonomics: Outfitted with a high F# key, front F mechanism, mother-of-pearl key touches, and an articulated low C# / Bb cluster for effortless fingerwork.
Condition & Shop Inspection
-
Cosmetics: Clean Player's Condition. The gold lacquer shows only very minor, honest cosmetic wear in the common contact areas, with no glaring scratches or structural trauma. The delicate factory bell engraving remains crisp and clear.
-
Mechanics: Bench-Tested & Ready. Our in-house master technicians have fully inspected, regulated, and play-tested the horn. The pads seal cleanly, the spring tensions are balanced, and the action is fast and quiet from top to bottom.
-
Accessories: Includes a protective aftermarket hardshell case. (Please note: Mouthpieces are not included with our pre-owned instrument sales unless otherwise specified.)
