The GC5-2Y: A Custom Instrument for a Modern Player

The Greenhoe GC5 is not just a bass trombone; it's a meticulously engineered instrument built to meet the most demanding requirements of today's professional musicians. It combines classic design principles with modern innovation to create a horn that offers a powerful voice with a refined and nuanced feel. This instrument has a factory unlacquered finish, with some discoloration and patina consistent with its age, a natural part of its unique character. This in no way harms the instrument, it is merely a cosmetic and tonal choice by the previous owner.

The GC5-2Y-TIS features a dependent valve section and a 2-piece yellow brass bell and yellow brass J-Bend. The bell has a soldered rim that provides a consistent tone color throughout the range of the instrument as well as a broad sound. The rose brass handslide with nickel crook provides a flexible, yet brilliant articulation. Standard tuning is F/D.

This horn was owned and played most recently by a local freelancer, professor of low brass, and esteemed educator in the Houston area. This one is in tip top shape, and plays like a beast!

What makes the Greenhoe GC5-2Y a standout professional instrument:

  • Incredible Resonance: This instrument features a 9.5-inch yellow brass bell that is designed for a powerful and full-bodied sound. The unlacquered finish allows the brass to resonate more freely, giving the horn a rich, complex tonal character that is perfect for both orchestral and solo performance. The wear and patina on the finish are a natural part of its aging process and add to its unique visual character.

  • Custom Slide Materials: The .562-inch bore is housed in a unique and responsive slide. The gold brass hand slide provides a slightly warmer, richer tone than standard yellow brass, while the nickel end crook adds a distinct visual touch and durability.
  • Dual Rotor System: The GC5 is equipped with a dual rotor system, which allows for seamless transitions between keys and a consistent feel throughout the horn's entire range. The valves are incredibly smooth and responsive, ensuring that a player can navigate any technical passage with ease.

  • Precision Tuning: This horn features a Tuning in Slide (TiS) system, a subtle but crucial feature that provides a tuning mechanism for precise intonation adjustments. It's a testament to the level of detail that goes into every Greenhoe instrument.

This Greenhoe GC5 is an instrument for a professional who wants a horn with a powerful and clear voice that can handle any musical challenge.
