Selmer-Paris Mark VII Tenor Saxophone (1975)

For sale is a truly powerful and exceptionally well-preserved Selmer-Paris Mark VII Tenor Saxophone, serial number 250932. Dating from 1975, this Mark VII is a vintage gem that looks to have been very well kept and very little played. It’s in remarkably clean condition, a rare find for a horn of this age.

The Selmer Mark VII, produced from 1974 to 1980, followed the legendary Mark VI and introduced a bold, new sound philosophy. While often misunderstood as simply a successor, the Mark VII stands on its own as an instrument with a bigger, more authoritative voice. Tenor players, in particular, have long revered the Mark VII for its rich, expansive sound and its ability to fill a room with minimal effort. This one is in all original shape, including the (gorgeous!) case and neck.

What sets this Mark VII Tenor apart and defines its unique character:

  • Commanding Tone: The Mark VII features a slightly larger bore than its predecessor, giving it a broader and darker fundamental tone. This results in a full-bodied, powerful sound that is ideal for cutting through big band sections or delivering a soulful, resonant solo voice.
  • Refined Ergonomics: The keywork on the Mark VII was a significant redesign, featuring larger palm keys and a raised C key. This gives the modern player a more comfortable and ergonomic feel, allowing for faster technical passages and a more natural feel.
  • Incredible Projection: This horn was built to project. The combination of its bigger bore and heavier construction allows for a huge sound with a beautiful, rich core, making it a favorite among jazz, rock, and R&B players.
  • Built to Last: As a horn from the 70s, this Mark VII is a testament to Selmer's uncompromising build quality. Its solid construction ensures that it will be a reliable and consistent performer for years to come.

This Mark VII is a fantastic choice for a player looking for a professional horn with a bold, unique voice and a solid feel under the hands.
