The Robert Tucci RT-50 (traditionally known in the brass community as the Perantucci PT-50) is widely regarded by orchestral tubists, brass pedagogues, and collegiate professors as the premier large-cup benchmark for CC and BB♭ tubas. Developed by master tubists Robert Tucci and Daniel Perantoni, this mouthpiece is engineered to produce an authoritative, dark symphonic foundation capable of anchoring a full orchestra or wind ensemble.
Featuring an expansive 33.0 mm cup diameter combined with a deep, funnel-shaped (conical) cup geometry, the RT-50 maximizes air column efficiency to generate tremendous volume, presence, and carrying power. The pronounced funnel shape emphasizes the true fundamental core of the tuba’s sound without introducing unwanted harshness or brittle upper partials. A standard 8.3 mm throat and open backbore provide a free-blowing feel that allows large-bore contrabass tubas to resonate fully across their entire range—from commanding low pedal notes to a secure, singing middle and upper register.
